Stephanie Releases Debut EP – Resilient Soul
Stephanie, a new comer to the singer/song writing trade, hales from Brisbane, Australia. The death of a good friend in April 2008 prompted her to write and record her first song which was played at her friend’s memorial service and presented to her mother’s friend as a keep-sake.
Almost exactly two years later, at the age of 45 (she swears it is only chronological), Stephanie recorded her first CD (EP) called “Resilient Soul” dedicated to her friend that passed away in 2008 and started her song writing career – Candia Bennett.
The EP consists of six songs, described as “organic folk, pop” – all songs from the heart. Stephanie completed writing and recording the songs with the help of her long life friend and well known Australian professional vocalist, Daryl Murphy. Murphy co-produced all the tracks and also provided all the exquisite backing vocals. The masterful Brisbane based musician, Toby Loveland provided the guitar on all tracks, with the exception of “Assistant to the Lost Souls”.
Included in the tunes (song #5), is the song Stephanie wrote in memory of her friend Candia, entitled, “Assistant to the Lost Souls” (the song and person are also known as “Candy”). Other songs include the upbeat “Sunday Song”, a gentle reminder that many of us are looking for happiness in all the wrong places. Then there is “Conversation” a relationship break up song which began as a verse in Stephanie’s head over 15 years ago (quite a gestation period!). Track 3, “Richard Branson” is a bit of a giggle and explains how “I want to be like Richard Branson, not scared of taking chances and laughing lots along the way”…..Song 4 “Flame” really is a song of resilience – a message that all of us need to remind ourselves of at one time or another. Lastly there is “Hands Up” about giving a friend a hand up when they need it most.
The songs certainly have a feel good mentality about them. They are stripped quite bare with guitar and keyboard being the instruments of choice. The songs are a great pick me up and are great fodder for a sing-a-long.
Stephanie’s desire is to sing a song in her heart and share it with others who find a connection with her content or melodies…….maybe that’s you…..
